Before you record you might want to review these points, whether they are new to you - or a reminder. Following their advice will only make your session run smoother and your recording sound better.
1. Try a little pre-production. - Record your songs in rehearsal or at a live show and listen to them as a listener would ( for changes, studio ideas, etc.) . Drop them off here & I'll be happy to review them - it will only help your session.
2. Got a budget? Let me know up front. I have no problems working within your budget. You tell me how much you have in mind, & I'll tell you what you can expect from that.
3. If you would like your recording to emulate a recording of another band (reference), bring it in before you start tracking. Keep in mind It's nearly impossible to sound exactly like a reference, but they are useful as a guide for what you want to achieve. |
4. New Strings & Heads. - Change those strings and heads, it will drastically boost your sonic clarity. Putting a mic right next to your amp or drum heads will tell no lie, and old strings and heads are duds.
5. If you want to record to a click - make sure you practice to a click. You don't want to be trying that for the first time in a studio. It's not fun. 6. Make sure you get proper rest before a session. You are not running a marathon, but if you feel like shit because you went crazy the night before, chances are you will play like shit.
7. Bring a trusted ear. If you bring an outside party (a friend, producer, etc.) to your session who knows your songs and sound, they can help steer your session in the right direction.
